The Housing Choice Voucher Program provides tenant-based assistance, in the form of a voucher, to low-income families, seniors and persons with disabilities for rental units chosen by the tenant in the private market.
The Alexandria Housing Authority administers a public housing program consisting of 590 units ranging in bedroom sizes 1 through 5.
In 2012, Congress authorized the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) to test a new way of meeting the large and growing capital improvement needs of the nation’s aging public housing stock, as well as to preserve projects funded under HUD's “legacy” programs (Rental Supplement, Rental Assistance Payment, and Moderate Rehabilitation).
The Alexandria Housing Authority works together with the Veterans Administration to offer housing to our Veterans. We receive referrals from the V.A. of Veterans who are homeless and seeking housing.
